How should I dress in Turkey?

Turkey is a secular country and you can dress as you would at home in cities, resorts and archaeological sites. A few places have their own rules:

  • Mosques: women cover their hair, arms and legs; men wear trousers or knee-length shorts and shoulders are covered. Scarves and wraps are provided free at mosque entrances.
  • During Ramadan it is polite not to drink alcohol in public in traditional neighbourhoods.
